Inspired by an Indian neighbour who takes his pet parrot everywhere he goes. I saw them reading the newspapers today. Also, I noticed, for the first time, that the bird was chained. I imagined that, not only can the bird talk, he also has a sweet tooth, and especially loves Gulab Jamun, an Indian sweet so sweet it can make your nose bleed.

Sugarcanes

I saw 2 people carrying whole sugarcanes today. The sugarcanes are what Hokkiens give as offerings on the 9th day (today is the 7th) of the Chinese New Year to the Jade Emperor of Heaven (天公, Tiāngōng) in the Daoist Pantheon.

Peacock Man

I made some comics today on my fabulous-smelling aged newsprint papers. This is inspired by a coffee man who serves drinks and breakfast near where I live. He wears his hair gelled up like a punk but i call him Peacock Man because his hair is as glorious as a peacock's tail. "Kopi C" is black coffee with sugar and evaporated milk, which is similar to condensed milk, but unsweetened. "Kopi Siew Dai" is coffee with less condensed milk. "Loh Mai Gai" is steamed glutinous rice with chicken. 😆

Jolly Auntie

I see her almost every morning on my walk! A jolly, adorable auntie! She is 80 years old and does her walking in her sandals and shorts. I can almost feel her knees smiling every step she takes. She has a cute way of waving at me like little girls would- quick little movements with her hand. Then when she starts talking you realise she is also the straightest talking person you will meet. 🌻 ( i include the weird tree with bulbous growth on the trunk, and that endless line of cars....)
