in the car

we were driving to Launceston to see Zacky play at his school assembly, also because I had not been there and it was time to visit. It was a long drive. I felt very lucky and grateful that I didn't have to do the driving. Maybe that's why Jono looks like he is about to mow down some giant monster, while I sit there happily taking selfies.

green bowl

Jona bought a green bowl from the thrift shop. He was overjoyed. "I'm gonna drink my soup from it, and my minestrone and mince." It really is a lovely-looking bowl. I didn't buy any for myself, because none of them was right. I am still looking for that one special bowl that suits me. Everyone needs the right bowl to drink their soups from.

a song for my father

I made these drawings about my dad, years ago, sort of like the secret words I had always wanted to say to him but could not. Because of our relationship I could never say them to him and he would never hear them even if I did. So I drew and wrote them down on paper instead. Today I showed them to my husband who is a songwriter/musician, and asked if he would play something for these drawings. He did an improvisation on the concert ukulele and twelve string guitar and completed the story that was never told. I will show it to my dad tomorrow. He suffers from dementia now, and in a sad but funny way his sickness tore down the wall between us completely.

Thanks so much to Jon Duncan for playing on this. I love the rawness and conversation between the melancholic and hopeful.

the photo that I based this on must have been painted or drawn to death. But I thought I tried it anyway.

I redrew something that I saw on 2013. The original post is here.
You will notice that I look better in this version! Haha.

enjoy the cake

I found an old photo of my mother eating a cake she had baked. The cake looked almost black but she seemed to be enjoying it. So I painted this. It has been a long day. And I am trying to block out the noises around me.

some illustrations on aged newsprint papers

back in my parents' flat in Singapore, I found these stacks of aged newsprint papers that I had kept for ages. I started drawing on them and totally loved the feel of the paper drinking the ink up. so nice.
here are some illustrations I did last month, for a few songs I recorded myself and with Jon.
