painting my father from memory
Painting a person's face from memory forces me to paint the person behind the face, not just the face.
How much do I remember of the person I am painting?
What decisions do I make in my painting in this process of remembering?
The image of a person in my mind is like a cloud. In the process of painting, the colours and textures make that cloud tangible. I enjoy this process very much.
I find portraiture fascinating, because a person is not just made up of ONE image.
