There is a tree outside my window, 2011
a booklet of ink drawings. You can buy this book from Doinky Doodles!, 33, Bali Lane, Singapore.
Strangers when we met, 2010
This book is inspired by 7 Polaroid photographs of 2 unknown families. I bought them from an old lady at a flea market in Chinatown sometime in 1997. I found myself drawn to these faces, and had spent many hours looking at them and making drawings and paintings of them. Some of them were made in 2002, and, after a long break, I drew the rest of them in June 2010. The names and dates of birth of these people were written at the back of each photograph. This makes them more “real” to me. These little grey images on paper have names. They are people. Drawing and painting these faces in the photographs is a way for me to express my interest in the human face, which can contain so many complex and hidden things.
Crazy (pre)Occupations, 2010
An A-Z book of some crazy occupations and some not so crazy occupations. I painted one each day during the June school holiday in 2010. They are based on images from the internet.
It's Ok To Be Different, 2010
This is a compilation of some of my drawings, paintings and comics from 2002 to the first half of 2010.
It contains these series of works: 1) A Little Tale (2005) 2) My Brother Hippo (2005) 3) Strangers When We met (2002-2010) 4) This is the girl ( 2008) 5) The Penis ( 2008-2010) 6) My Brother is Dead (2008) 7) But Sweeter Than The Rest ( 2007) and more. Silly Old Rat Paints A Person, 2010
_A story about a painter by the name of "Silly Old Rat" who painted
everything but a person. In this story here we are very fortunate to
witness the great Rat paints a person for the first time. How does he
do it and will he succeed and achieve Greatness?
Adults are just so scary, 2010
A story about 2 toddler's escape from the scary and complicated world of adults.
These illustrations were made for another story which someone I knew had approached me to collaborate. But the printing of the book was delayed for a long time due to money issues. In the end, frustrated with myself for not making it clear to the writer from the beginning, I wrote my own story to go with these illustrations. As a result of that I think there could be a slight "sarcasm" in the tone I wrote this story. My friend thinks it is hilarious. Maybe. I think all mistakes I made are rather hilarious. The Moon Has Fallen, 2010
_One night, a group of friends heard that the moon had fallen. Shocked and heart-broken, they ran to save it.
In their desperate attempt to recover the fallen moon, something unexpected happened. I made this book at the time when my sister-in-law Elaine was pregnant with my nephew Gylan, and I dedicated this book to her and Gylan, and my brother Helin. (Buy this book from Doinky Doodles!, 33 Bali Lane, Singapore.) How To Break A Smile, 2009
I made this book after realising that you don't give your friends what they don't need. In fact, being too giving can destroy someone. You can't buy friendship and love.
I am not alone, 2009
A very simple booklet about a girl who finds joy in the small things around her.

Miscellaneous Endeavours, 2003-2006
I was studying for my Master degree in 2003-2004, and I was chosen to represent the school to attend an art symposium and exhibition in Belgrade in 2003. I made the following works which would later be made into one of my first few "illustrated books". The following shows you how it came about.
I saw some nice photos of children football teams under the sports section. This is one of them. I like the blurry faces of the children. When you were spending 2 weeks in a sad hostel with a bitchy receptionist from hell, and sharing a room with a travel mate whom you couldn't connect with , these faces, no matter how blur, saved my life.
The other thing that saved my life, was the 1983 Guinness Book of Records, which I had brought with me for the trip. I don't have the book with me anymore, so I thought I put a close-up of one of the boys here instead. I think, I must have looked like this for the 2 weeks I was there. Feeling irritated and also bored to tears. Oh, but thanks to Kelvin Tan's 2002 album, Mortal Songs For Believers, which also saved my life.
During the day I talked to the young artists there. Most of them wanted to leave the country. But there were a few who said they would want to stay in Belgrade, 'cuz "It's my home", they would say. I did not enjoy mixing with the "art" people much, nor the symposium at all (my god!). So I tried to look for other things to do , other places to visit and other people to talk to. I made the following, partly inspired by the conversations I had with the people I met, partly from a set of strange postcards that Australian artist Fleur Summers had sent me a few years before that, and partly from I-don't-know-what, maybe from that Guinness Book of Records:
In the nights I made these tiny graphite drawings in the miserable hostel room, partly looking at that Guinness Book of Records, partly looking out of the window, partly trying to ignore my travel mate.
_After I came back from the trip, I kept these works on my shelf and forgot about them. Then in 2006, I compiled them for an exhibition called Rage Against The Dying Of The Light, which also featured fellow artists Jeremy Sharma, Rossalyn Tan and Justin Lim. I scanned the pictures of the junior football teams, and singled out each of the boys' face and then arranged them on the cover(shown below). Miss Eriko Hirashima, a Japanese book artist based in Singapore, helped me bind the book.
This book is now in the National Library. HERE. That is the only copy. The end.
The Space Between The Punches, 2005
